Come join the fun as the City of Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation hosts a Bayfront Celebration on Saturday, August 19th from 4pm to 10pm. The event is a celebration of Music, Food, Vendors, Kids Activities & a Field Day introducing our Fall Recreation Programs, all while watching a spectacular Long Beach Sunset over the bay. Craft and Food Vendors, City Agencies and community organizations will line the parking lot at the Recreation Center located on Magnolia Boulevard and the bay beginning at 4:00pm. Pick up one-of-a-kind items, crafted by local artists and vendors. If you ride your bike to the event, you can stop by the LBPD booth to register your bike. And if you have a dog, be sure to stop by the City Clerk booth for dog licensing information.
No celebration would be complete without sampling the food trucks for some good old fashioned carnival street fare. A picnic area will be set up so you can enjoy a meal from one of our delicious food vendors including, Cuban, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Sausage & Peppers and more. Finish off with a zeppole, fried Oreo, ice cream, cupcakes, pie or more.
The entertainment will take place on the bandwagon beginning at 5:00pm with local musician and guitarist Brendan Michaelis. at 6:30pm the Hagen-Kavanagh School of Irish Dance will perform and at 7:30pm Endless Summer, A Beach Boys Tribute Band will perform. Bring a lawn chair, kick back, relax and enjoy the tunes – or if the mood strikes you, get up and dance a while – it’s a festival, after all!
Kids activities begin at 5:00pm and include a bounce house, games and crafts with Seaside Celebrations. Our Recreation Leaders will offer a field day featuring our Fall Programs including Basketball, Running Club, Hockey, Flag Football, Soccer, Tennis and more. If your child has an interest in any or all of our programs starting in September, come down and give them a try. A great opportunity for a beginner or a child that has interest but never played before.
At 7:45pm, line up along the Bayfront to watch a spectacular Long Beach Sunset. Be sure to take a picture and submit it for the Long Beach City Calendar. No need to leave after sunset, Endless Summer will continue to play all your favorite Beach Boys tunes while vendors will be selling their wares. At dark everyone is encouraged to participate in the Glow Stick Dance Party!
With something for everyone, this event packs in a ton of activities all evening long. “It’s always a great time when the community comes together at a City event,” says Paul Ferrante, Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. “The best thing about attending an event like this is the opportunity to foster a sense of pride within a community, while showcasing all the Rec has to offer and of course watching a spectacular Long Beach Sunset over our beautiful Bayfront. We hope you will join us!”
