The Long Beach school board and budget vote will be held on Tuesday, May 16th. There are two Board of Education seats up for election. The term for a BOE member is 3 year. The Central Council Parent Teacher Association will be holding a candidates forum on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at Long Beach City Hall.
From the LI Herald: “Long Beach residents will vote on May 16 on the proposed $135 million budget for the 2017-18 school year as well as three Board of Education candidates. Incumbents Dr. Dennis Ryan and Maureen Vrona, who were elected in 2008 and 2014, respectively, are seeking re-election. Vrona’s platform focuses on maintaining school programs and extracurricular activities, while Ryan is emphasizing the need to maintain reserve funds.
Their challenger, Lori Montgomery, who recently retired from the district after 32 years as a nurse, said that her main concern is helping the district’s children improve their mental, emotional and physical health.”
