Reminder: New Carryout Bag Ordinance Effective 4/22

Back in October 2016, the Long Beach City Council passed Nassau County’s first-ever Carryout Bag Ordinance. Beginning “on Earth Day, April 22, 2017, all business establishments would begin charging a fee of not less than five (5) cents for each carryout bag made of plastic, paper, or reusable material (thicker plastic or cloth) to make the cost of the bag clear to the customer – customers who bring their own bags will not be charged… The ordinance aims to reduce plastic and paper carryout bag usage, decrease Long Beach’s effect on greenhouses gas emissions and climate change, keep storm drains, trees, and streets clean and clear, and improve every resident’s quality of life.” Click here for more information on the Long Beach Carryout Bag Ordinance.
